Malik Riaz to appear before Pak SC tomorrow in CJ son's case

Riaz's private plane landed in Karachi late evening and after refueling took off for Islamabad where the Supreme Court is hearing the case.

A spokesman for Malik Riaz said he had returned to Pakistan although he was undergoing treatment in London following Supreme Court's orders to record his statement in Arsalan Iftikhar's suo motto case.

Riaz's legal counsel, Zahid Bukhari told the media earlier in the day that Malik Riaz was under medical treatment in London where doctors had advised him not to travel but the business baron decided to return so that he could record his statement before the Supreme Court.

 

Riaz is accused of paying Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry's son millions of rupees as bribe in return for getting number of cases against the tycoon and his pet project, Bahria Town being disposed off by the court.

When the case broke out, the tough Chief Justice took suo motu notice of the allegations and he set up a three-member bench to hear the case. Initially he headed the bench, but later withdrew from the bench hearing the corruption scandal that has rocked Pakistan.

Arsalan today claimed that he was innocent and said the court should order that his name and that of Malik Riaz be put on the Exit Control List and they be sent to jail until the case is decided.
