In the backdrop of incidents of murder of elderly persons in their homes in the city, West Bengal Chief Minister Wednesday ordered the police to take strong measures to quicken investigation into them.
She also asked the panchayats and the municipalities in the state to work in tandem to curb the growing menance.
The guilty in such incidents will not be spared, Banerjee, who also looks after the home portfolio, told newsmen.
"On Tuesday two couples were killed - one in Sonarpur and another in Netaji Nagar in the southern part of Kolkata. I have asked the police to conduct investigations very seriously to find out in detail what actually transpired and take strong action against the culprits.
"If some people think that they can encroach the land of old people who stay alone or have no one to look after them, it will not be easy," she said.
