West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today congratulated Congress leader Ahmed Patel for winning the Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat
"@ahmedpatel Ji congratulations for a big fight. Good fight. Good win," Banerjee said in a Twitter post.
Patel, political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, beat Balwantsinh Rajput in a bitterly fought election.
Rajput was till recently the party's chief whip in the state Assembly before defecting to BJP.
