West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today assured the parents of the youth who was killed by drunken men after he raised his voice against eve-teasing that the culprits will be caught.

Banerjee called up the family members over phone and assured them that the police will not spare any effort to catch the culprits.

She also offered condolences to the family.

The chief minister, who left the state secretariat this evening to visit the victim's house in Howrah district, could not reach the place because of the narrow and congested road which was teeming with thousands of devotees due to a religious festival and had to return from the neighbourhood Kazipara area.

She then called up the bereaved family.

"His parents had told me that they don't have anyone to support the family financially. His father does an ordinary job and has requested if an employment could be provided to the brother of the victim. Chief Minister has taken from me a biodata of the brother and we are looking into it," Arup Roy, state Minister for Agricultural Marketing, told PTI.

Arup Bhandari (20), a college student, died yesterday after he was beaten up by some drunken youths in Howrah for protesting the lewd comments passed against two girls.
