Mamata condoles death of author Suchitra Bhattacharya

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today condoled the death of eminent Bengali author Suchitra Bhattacharya.

"I convey my profound grief on the sudden demise of eminent Bengali novelist Suchitra Bhattacharya. She died on late Tuesday night. She was at the front rank among contemporary writers," Banerjee said in her condolence message.

"Some popular Bengali films were made based on her novels. May her soul rest in peace. I convey my heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved family," she said.

Winner of several literary awards, Bhattacharya died following a massive cardiac arrest last night at the age of 65.

Some of her acclaimed novels are 'Ami Raikishori', 'Kancher Dewal', 'Kachher Manush', 'Dahan', 'Hemanter Pakhi', 'Neel Ghurni', 'Aleek Sukh', etc.
 

Late film-maker Rituparno Ghosh had made a great movie based on 'Dahan' that won two national awards in 1998.
