"The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) felicitated the KKR team and its co-owner Shah Rukh Khan on the occasion of their success. The KMC has a fund for such purpose and it arranged to felicitate them from its own resources", Banerjee told reporters.
"The state government has rewarded the KKR team mainly with its appreciation and not with any valuables. They are pride of the nation. People greeted the team from the core of their hearts", Banerjee said.
The previous Left Front government led by CPI(M) had squandered huge amount of public money by organising programmes like 'Hope-86', she alleged and said that the Marxists should look within in stead of finding fault of the new government.
State's Sports Minister Madan Mitra said "those criticised the felicitation of KKR as bogus expenses by the state government have damaged government bus and property worth several times of the amount during the NDA-sponsored bandh today".
