West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today greeted Bangladesh on its independence day.
"Heartiest greetings to people of Bangladesh on their Independence Day. Bangabandhu's midnight radio declaration is still alive in our hearts," Banerjee tweeted.
On March 26, 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence for Bangladesh, leading to a bloody Liberation War against occupying Pakistani forces.
On December 16, 1971 a new sovereign state was born.
