West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today greeted the people in a message on the eve of Independence Day.
"I salute our nation, freedom fighters, countrymen, jawans, kisans, brothers and sisters and all our Maa, Maati, Manush," she said.
Quoting Swami Vivekananda, she said in a Facebook post "Practical patriotism means not a mere sentiment or even an emotion or love of the motherland, but a passion to serve our fellow countrymen."
She said that her party would celebrate the country's independence through programmes at midnight in various places of the state.
