West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated an eight-day music festival which will be held at various auditoria of the city.

"It is our government's endeavour to render honours to established and budding artistes of the state," Banerjee said here.

She said the state government would bring the unsung artistes to the limelight by giving them proper recognition and assistance.

Banerjee said the West Bengal tableau at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi had secured the first prize while the same honour was bestowed on the state in a cultural competition.

"This shows that Bengal one day will emerge as not only the cultural capital of the country, but of the world," she said.

Besides traditional forms of music, tribal musical forms like dhamsa and jhumur and village folklore songs would also be performed at the festival.
