Mamata leaves for north Bengal for five-day tour

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left today for a five-day tour of north Bengal, where she is scheduled to attend several programmes.

Keeping in view her visit, security has been beefed up in the area, state secretariat sources said.

Banerjee is likely to hold a meeting with representatives of private hospital and nursing homes in north Bengal tomorrow and is scheduled to inaugurate several projects and lay foundation stones of some new ones.

She is also likely to distribute benefits among people of the district tomorrow and inaugurate a mobile animal treatment unit there, the sources said.

She is scheduled to flag off a few long-distance buses of North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) and inaugurate a women police station and a residential complex for sub-inspectors.
 

During her visit, the Chief Minister will declare Mirik as a new sub-division, the sources added.
