Alleging that Mamata Banerjee is trying to be a power centre in national politics, CPI(M) Politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today termed her Modi bashing as a mask to fool the minorities of the state before the elections.

Bhattacharjee said Banerjee was trying to become a power centre in Delhi in order to be in close proximity with the party in power.

"Federal Front is a non-starter, it has not even started and will not start either. She doesn't believe in any front. She doesn't even believe in her own party. She is trying to gather a few seats and act as a power centre in Delhi. This trend is very dangerous for the country," Bhattacharjee said in an interview to a Bengali news channel.

Bhattacharjee alleged Mamata's recent bashing of BJP and Narendra Modi at various rallies was a ploy to fool the minorities before the polls.

"Her recent verbal attack on Modi and BJP is just a ploy before the polls to fool the minorities. But this time it won't reap benefits," he said.

"Her outbursts have started after there was a dissent brewing within the Minorities about her silence on Modi and BJP. After sensing it, she started attacking the BJP," the former Chief Minister alleged.

Bhattacharjee also questioned how can Banerjee be trusted on the issue of not aligning with Modi, because in the past she had been a part of the NDA government.

"How can you trust her? She has been part of the NDA government. Has she ever said her association with NDA was a mistake?" he asked.

"She is now saying that Modi is face of riots. But she had sent flowers to Modi after he had won elections in Gujurat. Was he not a face of riots then?" he asked.
