BJP today accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of "betraying" the mandate given to her by "protecting" the corrupt as it hit out at the Trinamool Congress over its protests against arrest of its MPs by the CBI in a corruption case.
"The TMC government has turned out to be a mirror image of the earlier Left government. The biggest disappointment is that it allows corruption and when probe agencies take legal action it resorts to violence and shameless politics of lies and baseless allegations.
"Instead of condemning the Central government, Mamata Banerjee should have taken action against her party leaders. But she will not do it as her entire government is standing on foundation of corruption and scam," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said in a statement.

"By protecting such corrupt leaders, she has betrayed the big mandate she had received from the people," Sharma alleged.
The CBI had yesterday arrested TMC's Leader in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandhopadhyay a few days after arresting another party MP Tapas Paul in the Rose Valley chit fund case.
Sharma noted that the CBI was probing these cases on the Supreme Court's order and asked Banerjee to let law take its course.
In an apparent reference to Dhulagarh violence in which the BJP has alleged that Hindus have been targeted, he said TMC's protests were aimed at diverting people's attention from it.
She is also "peeved" as crores of rupees earned through corrupt means have been rendered waste by demonetisation, he alleged.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working to remove corruption, leaders like Mamata, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal are working to save the corrupt, he claimed.
