Mamata to visit Germany, Italy to attract more investment

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday said that she would be visiting Germany and Italy to attract more industries to the state.

Her tour to the two European countries be from September 16 to September 28, officials said.

Banerjee will be accompanied by Finance Minister Amit Mitra, additional finance secretary H K Dwivedi and chief secrtary Malay Dey during her visit to Frankfurt and Milan, they said.

Banerjee said that she was invited by industrialists, businessmen and government from the two European countries who had visited the city during the Bengal Global Business Summit this year.

"I am going to Frankfurt and Milan to bring in more business and industry to the state. We will be holding two meetings - one in Frankfurt and another in Milan," she told reporters at the state secretariat.

 

She said that there were invitations from Poland, which state power minister Sobhandeb Chatterjee had recently visited and state IT secretary Debashish Sen would soon be visiting Silicon Valley in the USA.

"We are benefitted by these kind of visits because they bring in more investments in the state," she said.

Banerjee said two committees had been formed to deal with any emergency and natural calamity like flood in the state during her foreign tour.

The two committees comprised of a group of ministers and another of senior administrative officials, she said.

The group of ministers, under the chairmanship of state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, would include senior ministers like Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, Transport Minister Suvendhu Adhikary, PWD Minister Aroop Biswas and six others, the government order said.

The committee comprising senior officers would be headed by Naveen Prakash, the additional chief secretary to the irrigation, waterways and agriculture and include home secretary Atri Bhattacharyaa, state security advisor Surajit Kar Purakayasta, state DG Virendra, ADG (law and order) Anuj Sharma and city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, it said.

"I and the chief secrtary will be available on the phone anytime. These two committees will look after any emergency situation," she said.
