West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Chowdhury today described the flyover collapse as a "man-made disaster" and alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to hush up corruption by Trinamool leaders which led to the incident.

"It is a man-made disaster which is the result of corruption by TMC leaders. The Chief Minister knows this very well and that is why she is trying to hush up the matter," Chowdhury said at a programme here.

Those involved in the corruption, whoever big he may be, should be arrested immediately, the state Congress chief said.

About 60-metre-long portion of an under-construction flyover collapsed last afternoon on a congested road intersection here killing at least 24 people.

Reacting to Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay's accusation that the erstwhile Left Front government had made a "faulty plan" of the flyover, Chowdhury asked what stopped the present government from making a new design.

Sudip Bandyopadhyay today argued that the then Left Front government had pursued a "faulty plan" for the flyover and when the complaints were received 60 per cent of the work had already been completed.
