"I have told him (Prime Minister) that public is unhappy about this repeated hike (in petrol price) and requested him to rollback the price hike", Banerjee told PTI.

The Chief Minister said, "I told him when there is a decrease in the global crude prices, why will there be a rise in petrol prices in India?"

"I requested him to try. I told him to rethink", the chief minister added.

"He told me yes, there are problems faced by petroleum marketing companies", Banerjee said.

The chief minister had a word with the Prime Minister during the latter's brief 3-hour visit to the city.

The chief minister attended the Indian Science Congress Association programme along with the Prime Minister at Calcutta University and saw him off at the RCTC helipad .

Banerjee recently hit the city streets demanding rollback in petrol prices, describing it as "unjust and unilateral without consulting UPA allies".

She was also unhappy at the partial rollback and demanded total withdrawal of the petrol price hike.
