A 27-year-old man carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 for allegedly robbing and killing a businessman in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar in August was arrested, police said today.

The accused, Rajesh Kumar alias Raja, had escaped twice from the custody of the Haryana and the Punjab police, while being produced in court, they added.

He was nabbed from near Kali Mata Mandir in Rohini yesterday following a tip-off. When he saw the police team, he took out a country-made pistol but was overpowered, the police said.

They claimed that during interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in 10 criminal cases. After escaping from police custody in Kurukshetra in January last year he was on the run.

On August 22, Kumar and his gang members followed one Sanjiv Gajwani (42) on their motorcycles from his hosiery factory at Shastri Nagar to his house in Ashok Vihar.

Gajwani was riding a scooter and carrying a bag containing cash.

As soon as Gajwani parked his vehicle in front of his house, the accused tried to snatch his bag. When the businessman resisted, he was shot thrice, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Joy Tirkey.

The gang members then fled with Gajwani's bag containing Rs 4.15 lakh.

In September this year, two of his associated were nabbed while he continued to be on the run along with another accomplice, Ravi. A reward of Rs 50,000 was declared for his arrest.
