A man accused of killing the wife was today acquitted by a court following the deposition by his seven-year-old disabled daughter that her mother was killed by her paramour.
According to Tilak Nagar police, Shiraj Shaikh killed his wife Shehnaz in December 2010 as he suspected that she had an extramarital affair. Shaikh was subsequently arrested.
The prosecution had initially included the daughter's name in the list of its witnesses but later it was dropped.
However, defence lawyer Abdul Wahab Khan called the minor girl as a defence witness. The girl, who suffers from speech impairment, told the court it was Shehnaz's lover who killed her.
