A 39-year-old music teacher and his seven-year-old son were today found dead in their flat in a housing complex in Ghodbunder Road area in the city, police said.

Police suspect the man, identified as Shomit Vijay Ghosh, first strangulated his son Ekansh to death before hanging himself to a ceiling fan, a Kasarwadavali police station official said.

The incident came to light when the driver of Ghosh repeatedly rang the door bell of the flat this afternoon, but didn't get any response, he said, adding that the driver then called the neighbours who alerted police.

Police broke open the door of the flat and found bodies of both Ghosh and Ekansh.

As per preliminary probe, a marital dispute seems to be the trigger behind Ghosh taking the extreme step, the official said.

Police found a suicide note, purportedly written by Ghosh, stating that he loved his wife.

The official said that Ghosh was living with Ekansh since his wife left him a couple of months back.

"The boy was either strangulated or smothered using a pillow," he said.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem and further investigation is underway.
