The police here today seized a stock of two banned psychotropic substances used by addicts as an alternative to narcotic drugs like heroin, and arrested a man.

As many as 155 vials of 'buprenorphine' and 'pheniramine maleate', used as an alternative to drugs such as heroin, smack and brown sugar, were seized from Rahul Malviya (24), police said.

"On a tip-off, a police team seized 75 vials of buprenorphine and 80 vials of pheniramine maleate from Malviya. These drugs are banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," Superintendent of Police Arvind Saxena told PTI.

Malviya told police during questioning that he procured these drugs from Chandigarh, Ambala and Jhansi.

"He used to sell them for Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 per vial. These are highly addictive drugs and used through injection. Some fifty disposable syringes were also recovered from him," Saxena said.

"More people would be arrested soon on the basis of information given by Malviya. We are also investigating whom he sold the drugs," the officer said.
