A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a senior revenue officer at his office premises at south Delhi's Mehraulim area, police said today.

The incident was reported on September 25, after which the accused, identified as Amar, went absconding. He was arrested by the police on Tuesday, said a police officer.

According to police, Amar allegedly operated as a tout outside the SDM's office at Mehrauli and on September 25 he allegedly turned aggressive after he was stopped at the entrance, while he was escorting one of his clients inside.

The SDM saw him and asked his purpose of visit. He was also asked to show his identity proof.

Failing to do so, the accused entered into a heated argument with the senior officer and allegedly assaulted him. He fled the scene by the time security personnel could get hold of him.

A case was registered under Sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 ( Punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC and investigation was taken up immediately, said the officer.

Amar is a resident of southwest Delhi's Jaitpur area and he was arrested from near his residence, the officer added.
