Man arrested for 'bribing' voters in Sarpanch polls

A man was arrested today for allegedly bribing voters during polling of Sarpanch elections in Singrauli area near here in which his wife is a candidate.

Suresh Dagat, 48, was seen around a polling booth and shelling out money to voters to cast their ballots in favour of his wife, Laxmi. He was arrested along with Rs 63,000 cash and a mobile phone handset, Joura Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dinesh Sindhi, told PTI.

He said that the officials received complaints that Suresh was giving away Rs 500 each to a voter in an attempt to secure votes for Laxmi.

"We immediately reached the polling booth under Chinnoni police station and nabbed him red-handed," the SDM said.
 

He said Suresh has been booked under relevant sections of IPC and Madhya Pradesh Civic Election Conduct Act, adding that further investigations were on.
