Man arrested for celebratory firing that led to girl's death

A man with criminal antecedents has been arrested in connection with the death of a girl in a celebratory firing during a marriage procession at Mangolpur Kalan village in April, police said today.

Vikrant, a gym instructor, was arrested by Crime Branch sleuths from Rohini Metro station on Tuesday.

He had applied for anticipatory bail in the High Court on various dates but did not get any relief. He was declared a proclaimed offender, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police(Crime Branch).

During a marriage procession on April 16, the accused had allegedly fired from an pistol and the bullet hit his neighbour's daughter in the head. The girl died at a hospital on April 19, police said.
 

A case of murder was registered on the complaint of the victim's father at Rohini South Police Station.

During interrogation, Vikrant told police that he was involved in a carjacking case in Mongolpuri area, along with his three accomplices, in December last year, the police officer said.
