A 28-year-old man, who allegedly cheated several people across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on pretext of giving contracts for various works at the Chief Minister's Office and secretariats was arrested from Tirupati, police said today.
Accused N Rakesh, a native of Khammam district of Telangana was nabbed from Tirupati on October 22 and has been brought to the city on transit warrant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detective Department) Avinash Mohanty said.
The accused introduced himself as Rakesh from Telangana Chief Minister's Office and used to call businessmen running electronic stores on the pretext of providing air-conditioners purchase contract to be installed at CM Office and collected deposits from the victims, the DCP said.

"The accused has created his name ID with fake profession in Truecaller application as 'CM Office Rakesh', Mohanty said, adding, he provided vendor codes for allotting government contracts for supply of air-conditioners.
During the course of investigation, it was found that Rakesh collected amounts ranging between Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000 from various persons, said the official.
Complaints were lodged by some of the victims at different police stations of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the senior police official said.
