A 23-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly duping several people of around Rs five lakh by stealing their credit card details.
Delhi Police have recovered a number of electronic gadgets from him, which he had purchased online using stolen credit card data along with six driving licences which were obtained on fake addresses.
According to a police statement, Sandeep Kumar, a native of Bihar was arrested from Shadipur in connection with a complaint filed by Mukesh Giri, Assistant Manager, SBI Cards, Fraud Control Unit regarding misuse of the credit cards facility for unlawful gains.
Giri had reported that some customers had complained that they have not done any online transactions from shopping websites but still they were being charged for online shopping from these websites.
During investigation, an online website was contacted about the disputed transactions and they confirmed that the said transaction was done on the name of one Deepak Singh. When the address of Singh was verified it turned out to be false. Later, it was learnt that still two items are pending to be delivered to him.
Accordingly, he was contacted on his mobile phone and called for delivery of two Micro SD Card. A trap was laid near Shadipur red light and the accused was apprehended while he came for taking the delivery.
He was later identified as Sandeep Kumar.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he used to work as a sales executive at various telemarketing companies during which he got access to credit card details of various SBI Credit Card holders.
On the basis of these details, he used to contact the customers and on the pretext of selling them discounted holidays packages, collected their personal details, registered mobile number as well as CUV numbers.
During interrogation, Sandeep revealed that he used to give non-existent address for deliveries. On not finding the address, the courier company used to contact him on his mobile number and he used to collect the items at a public place.
Four high-end Samsung Mobile Phones, one Camera, four Samsung memory cards, LCD, CPU, DVD Player, one Notebook, HP Printer etc. Worth several lakhs of rupees have recovered from his possession.
