A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly decamping with a truck carrying copper wire meant to be exported to Jordan from National Highway-8, which connects Delhi and Jaipur, police said Thursday.
Abid, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, was arrested after the Crime Branch received information he was to come to Bamnoli village in Delhi to sell more than 12,000 kg of stolen copper wire. The wire and the truck have been recovered, they said.
The wire was to be exported to Jordan, said Ajit Singla, additional commissioner of police (crime).
Abid, a truck driver by profession, disclosed that he and his brother-in-law, Roja Khan, had decamped with the truck loaded with copper wire of a fellow driver, Singla said. Abid was trying to sell the wire when he was arrested.
The police team is now looking for Roja, said Singla.
A few days ago, the crime branch arrested two persons involved in a similar crime involving a truck and recovered 10,000 kg of tea, Singla added.
