Gurusharan Singh used to charge Rs 7 to 8 lakh from each aspirant, Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central), said, adding he was allegedly running the racket for ten years.

He was arrested from UP's Mathura following a probe into a complaint filed by one Himanshu Gaba who claimed that Singh cheated him of several lakhs of rupees by promising him job in Merchant Navy after completing course from his institute.

Singh even sent the complainant to Cyprus allegedly with fake documents. Gaba was arrested there and later deported to India. "The accused failed to provide him the promised job and also refused to return the amount paid by the complainant," Srivastava said.

During investigations, he said, it came to light that Singh used to give advertisements in newspapers regarding courses offered by his institute.

"Gaba had paid around Rs seven lakh. After completing the course, the company also offered an onboard training in Hyderabad. After completion of training, the complainant requested him for a job.

"After this, Singh started avoiding him and shifted his office. Gaba traced the new office and asked him to honour his promise of job. Singh offered him a job in Iraq but he was reluctant to go to there," Srivastava said.

Gaba got in touch with those who had opted for Iraq from the institute and learnt that they were living a miserable life there. Later, Singh offered a job in Cyprus to him.

"He also arranged tickets, invitation letter and currency and sent him to Cyprus, Europe. When he reached Cyprus, authorities deported him after finding that the documents were fake," he said.

During interrogation, Srivastava claimed, Singh told police that he used to work in Merchant Navy as Deck Cadet.

"As many young persons were willing to join Merchant Navy, he opened his own institute and also collaborated with others. He earned lakhs of rupees and from that money, he has set up an empire of education hub at Mathura facilitating various courses in different streams," he said.

He was previously involved in two cheating cases registered in Delhi and Varanasi.
