A man was arrested in Odisha's Ganjam district for allegedly duping several youths of about Rs 19 lakh promising to arrange jobs in the Army and police department, police said today.

M Kishor Chandra (20) of Digapahandi, 25 km from here, allegedly posed himself as an Army officer and collected money from unemployed youths giving them false promises.

While arresting Chandra yesterday, police also seized several duplicate documents, laptop and mobile phones from him, they said.

The matter came to light when one A Swarup Kumar of Hatipadu, near here had complained to the police that he and four of his friends had been duped of about Rs 19 lakh by the accused on November 27, last year.

"We have investigated the matter and arrested him from Digapahandi," said inspector in charge, Baidya Nath Pur police station Deepak Mishra here.
