Man arrested for firing at offices of property dealers for extortion

A man, accused of firing at three different offices of property dealers in the Shalimar Bagh area here to terrorise and extort money from them, has been arrested, police said Friday.

Ashish, 35, who was a member of the Harsimran gang, was nabbed on Thursday from the Shalimar Bagh area, police said.

"He (Ashish) disclosed that he is a drug addict and came in contact with Harsimran alias Badal about a year ago. Harsimran had been externed out of Delhi by the police. To earn some quick money through extortion, Harsimran and Ashish had planned to terrorise the local property dealers," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) A K Singla said.

 

Ashish and his associate Ahman fired at three different locations at the offices of local property dealers in Shalimar Bagh and they were promised one lakh each per successful extortion bid by Harsimran, he said.

Ashish has a past criminal record and was found to be involved in three criminal cases, including that of a rape and a robbery, police said.

On October 20, some unidentified men had fired at the office of Grover properties in Shalimar Bagh and it was learnt that the accused was riding a scooty and had fired at two other offices of property dealers in the same locality, they said.

Police said that efforts were being made to nab Harsimran and Ahman.
