A man who allegedly hacked and withdrew money from another person's account at an ATM has been arrested, said police.

"On March 24, the accused Asif was nabbed when he tried to flee after withdrawing Rs 40,000 from an ICICI ATM in District Center Janak Puri by hacking it," said the police.

The account belonged to the victim Manveer Singh.

"The victim came to the ATM to check the balance of his account when an unknown person entered the ATM and tactfully observed the PIN Number," said police.

As soon as Manveer left the ATM, he received an SMS alert on his mobile phone regarding withdrawal of Rs 40,000 from his account, said the police.

When he immediately returned to the ATM he saw the person counting money. However, when Asif tried to flee, SI Richpal Singh and Constable Mukesh Kumar on PCR caught him after Manveer raised an alarm, said the police.

Five ATM cards of different banks have been recovered from the accused.
