"Jahid, 30, was finally arrested yesterday on a tip off, from Pul Prahladpur area," a senior police official said.
Jahid was arrested on the complaint of one Sunil Kumar.
Kumar had in October last year had reported that his maternal uncle Shyam Sunder, who was living with him, was consuming alcohol with his friends Jahid, Dharma, Uddal, and Kanav at his house on the previous night.
But when he returned home the next morning, he found his house locked from outside and his uncle missing. After a search, Sunder was found critically injured in the jungle area of I Block of Sangam Vihar area on South East Delhi.
He was rushed to trauma centre where he died during treatment. In the meantime, Jahid went missing.
During interrogation, Jahid said he had formed a gang to make a fast buck and he along with Sunder and four others used to commit snatching, theft, pick pocketing and other crimes.

"On the fateful night, he along with his gang members was consuming alcohol. During which a quarrel broke out between him and Sunder over sharing money pick pocketed by them. Following this, they all took him to the nearby jungle area and beat him mercilessly," said Ajay Chaudhary, ACP South- East District.
When he came to know about Sunder's death, he left Sangam Vihar to evade his arrest and started pick pocketing and other similar crimes in trains. Police also claimed to have solved eight other cases following his arrest. PTI SMJ RT
