A 24-year-old man has been arrested for his involvement in the murder of a constable of Uttarakhand Police and other crimes, police said today.
Sanjay alias Chotu, a resident of Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad was arrested by Outer district police yesterday after it received a tip off about two miscreants roaming in Alipur area in a stolen car.
The police team succeeded to nab Sanjay while his associate Inderpal managed to flee.

"Sanjay has a reward of Rs 20,000 on his arrest. He is among the top criminals of western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He is wanted in the murder of the Uttarakhand Police constable, Sunit Negi other then several cases of dacoity and attempts to murder," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Outer) Sanjay Kumar.
During interrogation, the accused said when he was lodged in Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad for a robbery case he met Inderpal there and after he was released in June he planned for Inderpal's escape.
"On July 31, Inderpal was being taken back to the jail from the Anupshahar court in Uttar Pradesh. Sanjay with his other associates intercepted the police team at a hotel and offered them sweets laced with a poisonous substance. Once they fell unconscious, Sanjay robbed them of their rifles and mobile phones and fled with Inderpal," said Kumar.
He also told police that on August 14, Inderpal, along with him and some of his associates committed robbery at a house in Roorkee, Uttarakhand.
Meanwhile, the police were informed about the robbery and they began investigation to nab them. An encounter took place in which Sanjay allegedly killed Constable Sunit Negi, who was shot at four times.
