Man arrested for making extortion calls

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force today arrested a person for allegedly demanding extortion money from the husband of a civic body chairperson.

Santosh Kumar Yadav, a resident of Pratap Garh, was arrested from Chhijarsi area here for demanding an extortion amount of Rs 2.5 lakh from Ram Jatan Maurya, the husband of the Nagar Pallika Pratap Garh Chairperson, DSP STF Gautam Buddha Nagar, R K Mishra said.

One mobile phone and three SIM cards have been seized from the accused, he said.

"Maurya received the first extortion call on October 17 and immediately lodged a complaint with the Kotwali Nagar Police Station," he said, adding he started getting repeated calls and threats.
 

A special team arrested the accused from Chhijarsi under Noida Phase-III police station.

During interrogations, the accused said he had a dispute with Sajjan Lal Yadav over a road passage and Maurya was helping Yadav, the DSP said.

"He started threatening and making extortion calls to scare Maurya. The account number the accused had mentioned for depositing the Rs.2.5 lakh was fake," he said.

The investigations will be done by the Pratap Garh police station once the Noida Phase 3 police station transfers the case, the DSP added.
