A 23-year-old man was today arrested for allegedly brutally murdering his parents at their residence in Vashind in the district, police said.
The incident took place around 4 AM when Sagar Dinesh Dinkar had a heated argument with his stepmother Lata (35) after she asked him the reason for staying outside late in the night, they said.
According to police, Sagar allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Lata and then his father Suresh (45) who tried to save his wife. Both of them died on the spot.
He was overpowered by their neighbours who rushed to the spot and was handed over to police.
An FIR was registered against Sagar under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC.
The bodies were sent for postmortem, police added.
