An 80-year-old man who is the brother of Ashok Mittal, owner of The Royal Plaza, a five-star hotel in Connaught Place, was arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him for allegedly misleading the court by presenting a false affidavit, police said.
"The man, identified as R P Mittal was arrested on February 19 by the staff of Subzi Mandi police station in North Delhi in execution of the non-bailable warrant," said a senior police official.
According to police, Mittal had mortgaged some shares with a bank but later he presented a false affidavit mentioning an incorrect date of release of the shares from the bank. He was booked in a case of forgery.
In May 31, 2013, the Delhi High Court took suo-motu notice of filing of false affidavit by him, with a view to mislead the court following which the Registrar of Delhi High Court filed a Complaint before the Concerned Magistrate.
On June 28 last year the magistrate took cognizance in the matter and issued summons to R P Mittal to which he did not respond following which on November 27 bailable warrants were issued.
"But when even then he did not turn up, an NBW was issued against him following which he was arrested from his house and produced before the court," the official said.
The court granted him bail on February 20 given his old age but debarred him from leaving the country without the prior permission of the country.
R P Mittal is the brother of Ashok Mittal, Founder of the Litolier Group and Chairman and Managing Director of Hotel 'The Royal Plaza' situated on Ashoka Road, New Delhi.
However, R P Mittal had had several court cases with his brother as well with Ashok Mittal even registering an FIR against him for making an attempt to kill him for property.
