Man arrested for smuggling electronic goods at IGI airport

Acting on intelligence inputs, customs officials found that Umesh Kumar, a native of Bhiwani in Haryana, was carrying mother boards for use in computers, lenses and lens covers for closed circuit television cameras in commercial quantity, officials said here today.

Kumar had arrived at the airport from Hong Kong via Colombo.

"The total value of the goods was Rs 11.96 lakh. The goods were placed under seizure and the passenger was put under arrest," the official said.

In a similar incident, Nirvair Singh, who hails from Kapurthala in Punjab, was arrested yesterday by the customs officials from IGI airport for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold and silver jewellery and electronic goods estimated at about Rs 21 lakh.

 

Singh had also come from Hong Kong, the official said.
