A 28-year-old man was arrested from southeast Delhi for allegedly supplying illicit liquor, police said Wednesday.
The accused, Raju Kumar Singh, is a resident of the Madan Pur Khadar area here, they said.
On the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a police patrolling team received information on smuggling of illicit liquor in the area, officials said.
"When police reached the spot, they saw a car bearing UP number plate was parked near a railway line. After seeing police, the driver of the car sped off," Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), said.
After a brief chase, the car was intercepted and its driver apprehended, he said.
During interrogation, Singh disclosed that he had been supplying liquor in Delhi and nearby areas for several years. He used to procure the liquor from Gurugram and supply it to bootleggers in Delhi, Biswal said.
The car and 60 cartons of illicit liquor were seized, he added.
