A 26-year-old man, arrested in a case of vehicle theft at Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district of Telangana, died today after suddenly taking ill, police said.
N Ravi, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Zaheerabad, said that Jadhav Jaipal alias Jai Singh, resident of Sarja Rao Pet Tanda of Mogdampally mandal, was a habitual offender and was arrested by police yesterday in a vehicle theft case.
He complained of uneasiness in the evening and was taken to a local hospital first. He was then shifted to Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment, where he died.
His relatives, however, alleged that Jaipal had been arrested on June 19, and he died due to custodial torture.
