The person arrested at the airport here on Aug 16 for illegally possessing passports was a travel agent and had genuine documents, police sources said.
Immigration officers at the airport had detained Abdulla Pallakkan who was on his way to Dubai and handed over to the Bajpe police.
He had with him 26 passports including that of two US residents.
On investigations it was found that Abdullah was a travel agent and was busy arranging Haj travels for his customers, which is why the passports were with him.
Abdullah managed to clear airport security at Kozhikode and met a travel agency in Kanhangad to book travels to Haj.
But he was forced to return as he could not complete the work. He was on his way back to Dubai in this connection when he was caught at Mangaluru.
Though Abdulla did not want to cheat anyone it was illegal to possess another person's passport. Hence he was later booked with charges under the Passport Act, the sources said. Investigations are on.
