Police have arrested a 41-year- old man for allegedly killing a 60-year-old jeweller inside his shop in central Delhi's Karol Bagh last month.

Earlier this week, two men were arrested and a juvenile was apprehended for the killing.

According to Anto Alphonse, additional deputy commissioner of police (central), the accused, Sanjay Chawla is the mastermind of the killing-cum-robbery case.

On the day of incident, Chawla and his accomplices went to Ravinder Kapoor's shop on two motorcycles. They went upstairs in the shop and tied his hands and legs and put tape on his mouth which led to his death.

Then, they robbed the jewellery shop. In the meantime, Kapoor's servant Bhagirath arrived there. They tied him up also and decamped with the jewellery worth lakhs.

On the basis of a tip-off, Chawla was arrested yesterday from Mangol Puri.

He was found carrying a loaded pistol with six live cartridges at the time of his arrest, said Alphonse.

During interrogation, Chawla disclosed that he had gone in disguise to kill the jeweller so that he could not be identified, police said. He had been cheating jewellers in Karol Bagh and Chandni Chowk since 2003.

The accused opened a shop in Kucha Mahajani in Chandni Chowk area in the name of Muskan Jewellers after he was released from Tihar Jail where he was lodged in a cheating case.

Thereafter, he duped many jewellers along with his associate, who has already been arrested in the present case.

Chawla was looking for a soft target and identified Kapoor due as his old age.

The accused procured two SIM cards on fake IDs from Amritsar on April 6. He called Kapoor posing as Vishal Bhatia from Bhatia Jewellers of Amritsar in order to gauge his financial strength.

On April 30, the accused, in order to disguise himself, wore a wig and goggles. He went to Kapoor's shop and killed the elderly man, tied up his servant and fled with the jewellery.
