An alleged drug peddler, part of a supply chain in the national capital, has been arrested with heroin worth Rs 35 lakh in the international market, police said today.

The accused, Rajeev Gupta (33), was arrested red-handed by the Narcotics Cell of Crime Branch at Geeta Colony's Shamshan ghat area on July 29, while he was in possession of 170 gm heroin and was to hand it over to another person.

Gupta, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, is member of a drug cartel based out of the western Uttar Pradesh district and the heroin recovered from him was part of local supply to be consumed in Delhi, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.

"To meet his expenses, he started procuring heroin from the drug peddlers in Bareilly for supply in Delhi. During this period, he came in contact with one Chottey Khan of Fatehganj who used to provide him heroin," he added.

An FIR under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against him at the Crime Branch station and further investigation is in progress, Yadav said.
