A Delhi Police constable was allegedly assaulted by a man when he tried to intervene in a fight between the latter and a rickshaw puller in northeast Delhi's Nand Nagri area today.

The victim was identified as constable Vivek Sharma, who works as the driver for an ACP rank officer posted in traffic, a police official said, adding that a case has been registered and the accused, identified as Hari Prasad (25), has been arrested.

According to police, the incident took place this morning when Sharma was heading towards Nand Nagri police station to park the car when he found Prasad indulged in an argument with a rickshaw puller after parking his car on the middle of a street.

Sharma initially honked, which irritated Prakash but he refrained from moving his car.

Sharma then lost patience and went to intervene in the fight between Prasad and the rickshaw puller, when the man allegedly assaulted the policeman and also torn his uniform.
