A 30-year-old man, with attempt-to-murder cases against him, was killed at Ambagada village in Ganjam district in the early hours today, police said.
The deceased was identified as M Budu Patra of the village, under Berhampur Sadara police station limit. Budu was involved in at least two attempt-to-murder cases about five years ago, they said.
Before Budu was killed, he had allegedly attacked a person in the village, following which a group of people stabbed him with sharp weapons at his home, police said, adding, Budu's brother Ladu Patra also sustained injuries while trying to save him.

Though he was immediately rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Budu succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Though the exact reason of the attack on him was not known immediately, he might have been killed over previous enmity, said Inspector-in-Charge Berhampur Sadara police station, Siba Shankar Mohapatra.
No one was arrested in connection with the murder, as the assailants fled after committing the crime, he said.
Patrolling has been intensified in the area to nab the culprits, police said.
