A 45-year-old man's alleged attempt to abduct a five-year-old girl sleeping in her house in the Dawle locality of Shil-Daighar area at midnight, was successfully foiled by a group of devotees, the police said here today.

Assistant police inspector S M Mane of the Shil-Daighar police station told PTI today that the accused who was identified as Nimai Lalu Sadol, a labourer, intruded into a house at midnight, while neighbours were celebrating Krishna Janmashthami.

As the accused picked up the sleeping child and began walking away, an alert group of people immediately raised an alarm and nabbed him, the police said.

An offence under Sections 363, 452 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and a probe is on, the police said.

The police has appealed to citizens to be extra cautious regarding their kids, especially girls, to prevent such incidents.
