According to police, one Mansukh Parmar, who belonged to Dalit community, tried self-immolation at Civil Hospital chowk but was prevented from doing so by the cops who were posted at the location.

Parmar was arrested on the charge of suicide attempt, they added.

Parmar said he owns a land in Malyasan town of Rajkot district and had lodged a complaint against nearly 15 persons who allegedly wanted to grab his land.

He said that despite the complaint, police had not acted upon it.

"I had lodged a complaint against some 15 persons who harassed me for grabbing my land in Malyasan town," Parmar said adding no action was taken against them.

However, police said they have detained around 10 members of the group for interrogation.

"But Parmar insists that all the 15 accused should be arrested," a police official investigating the case said. PTI VJA NP
