Bhagat took the step to protest "inaction" against doctors of a government hospital who allegedly manhandled his pregnant wife in April when she had gone for treatment, his family sources said.
He had lodged a complaint and demanded a probe into the alleged incident and punishment for the doctors concerned. Based on the complaint, police had registered a case in April against a group of doctors.
One of the doctors, Vaishali Mate, had filed a counter complaint alleging the relatives of Bhagat created ruckus in the hospital and deterred them from discharging their public duty.
Bhagat had also submitted a memorandum to the District Superintendent of Police and Patil's office seeking their intervention for quick action on his complaint. Angered by police "inaction" in the last two months, he tried to end his life, the sources said.
