An unemployed man from Chitradurga district today allegedly attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills outside Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's official residence here, police said.
Basavaraju, who is in his twenties, had come to the city to seek financial help from Siddaramaiah to cure his unknown disease but officials refused an appointment with the Chief Minister and turned him away, asking him to get his health records, they said.
Frustrated over failing to get an appointment, Basavaraju allegedly consumed more than ten sleeping pills in front of his house.

He also said he was under financial stress as he was in debt and the lenders demanded repayment of loans he availed from them.
He was rushed to hospital, where he is recuperating, they said.
