Man beaten to death for burning cane crops

A 20-year-old man was beaten to death by irate residents of Dhudli village in the district for allegedly burning sugarcane crops of more than 50 farmers, police said today.

The sugarcane crops in four villages including Niyamu, Biralsi, and two others under Charthawal police station were found burnt by unidentified miscreants yesterday, they said.

"During a search of the suspected miscreants, a man was beaten to death by irate villagers. The injured was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead," SP (city) Ombir Singh said.

The victim is yet to be identified, police said, adding the body has been sent for postmortem.
 

Security in the area has been tightened, they added.
