A young man believed to be from Arunachal Pradesh was injured in an attack by miscreants after he forcibly entered trouble-torn Bihali reserve forest area on the inter-state border in Assam's Sonitpur district today, police sources said.

The unidentified young man and another tried to forcibly enter at Barjharani forest gate near Dikalmukh to buy petrol though personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion and local people from both sides urged them not to do so, the sources said.

While the young men and local people had an argument, miscreants attacked them with sharp-edged weapons and injured one of them, while the other fled, they said.

The local people rescued the injured young man and admitted him to Kanaklata Civil hospital here.

The situation at Barjharani was tense following the killing of 11 CPI-ML supporters and injury to eight in an attack by unidentified persons from Arunachal Pradesh on January 29 at Chauldhua on the inter-state border.
