A man has been booked for allegedly forging birth certificate of his son, who is facing charge of raping a minor girl, police said today.

A case was registered against Manickrao Sadavarte under IPC section 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged) of the IPC for allegedly forging birth certificate of his son at Thane Nagar Police Station, they said.

Sub-inspector of Bhiwandi Police Station S M Barkade said the accused's son, now 24, is currently lodged in jail in the case of alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl in June, 2015.

Manickrao then produced a fake birth certificate before the local court to mislead the court, showing his son as a juvenile and save him from court proceedings, he said.
