Man booked for possessing over Rs 3 lakh in old notes

Railway Police today booked a person from Punjab for allegedly possessing Rs 3.40 lakh, mostly in old high-value currency notes, here.

"Neeraj Sharma of Punjab's Ludhiana, was booked after Rs 3,40,700 in illegal tender currency was recovered while conducting routine checking today at Jammu Railway Station," police officer said.

The cash was primarily in the notes which are no longer legal tender, he said.

A case has been registered against him at General Railway Police (GRP) Jammu under sections 55 and 109 of the CrPC, he added.

The Income Tax authorities were consulted and a team reached the spot to carry out departmental formalities. The source of cash will also be ascertained by the department, the officer said.
 

SSP Railways Rajinder Kumar Gupta said anyone using railways for transporting black money will be dealt with sternly under law.
